    Six From Six
    Liverpool 0-3 Manchester City · Anfield · Sunday 11 October 2026

Manchester City won at Anfield for the first time in years, and did it the hard way round: goalless at half-time, a man sent off in the opening minute of the second half, then three goals in sixteen. Six wins from six, eighteen points, and a three-point lead nobody expected this early. Liverpool, who had not lost all season, are ninth.

    Sixty minutes of Liverpool

Anfield was loud before a ball was kicked — 60,338 inside it — and for most of the first half it was loud in the right way. Liverpool pressed, won the second balls and kept finding Víctor Muñoz down their right. He finished the half with more shots attempted than anyone else on the pitch. Donnarumma saved from Lewis Koumas and from Gravenberch himself. Liverpool were, by any fair measure, the better team.

Which is why the noise never really stopped. Whatever was being said at the Anfield end, the visiting end heard it too, and Liverpool's first booking of the night came three minutes into the second half — Gravenberch, on Elliot Anderson.

    The sixteen minutes

Timeline of the 62nd to 78th minutes of Liverpool 0-3 Manchester City: Gravenberch sent off in the 62nd, Haaland 65th, Doku 68th, Cherki 78th
The match in four moments: the red card at 62 minutes, then goals at 65, 68 and 78.
    • 62'Sent off · Gravenberch Second booking, challenge on Doku
    • 65'Goal · Haaland1-0 Doku beats his man and cuts back; volley past Alisson
    • 68'Goal · Doku2-0 Shifts inside and curls it into the top corner
    • 78'Goal · Cherki3-0 Anderson to Gvardiol, flicked through, 41-pass move

In the 62nd minute Gravenberch went in on Doku as City tried to break, and a second yellow came out. Liverpool argued the first one should never have been given; Andoni Iraola said so afterwards, and Van Dijk said his captain was "probably" unlucky while accepting the maths. It does not change the count.

Three minutes later City were ahead. Doku beat his man, cut the ball back, and Haaland's movement inside the box was quicker than Virgil van Dijk could follow — volleyed first time, no hesitation, past Alisson.

Three minutes after that it was two. It was Doku again, shifting inside and curling it into the top corner from range. By then the shape of the game had changed completely: Liverpool down to ten, a goal down, and a home crowd that had been told for an hour that this was the night.

The third was the best of them. Elliot Anderson to Joško Gvardiol, a flicked through-ball, and Rayan Cherki taking it down, stopping, waiting for Frimpong to be wrong, and slotting it under Alisson's arm. Forty-one passes, and the only reaction around Anfield was applause for the pass.

Mac Allister curled a free-kick straight at Donnarumma shortly afterwards — the closest Liverpool came, and probably the point at which the home side felt the last of it go.

    The table, after six

Premier League table after matchweek 6 showing Manchester City first on 18 points from six wins and Liverpool ninth on 9 points
After matchweek 6: City top on 18 from six wins, Liverpool ninth on 9.
    • Manchester City18 pts 1st · 6 played · 6 won · 16:5 goal ratio
    • Liverpool9 pts 9th · 6 played · 2 won · 3 drawn · 1 lost · 7:7

City have now won every game they have played in the league, scoring sixteen and conceding five. Arsenal sit second on fifteen. There is no new manager bounce, no January signing to wait for — this is simply a team that is ahead of everyone else and has not put a foot wrong.

Liverpool's loss ends Iraola's unbeaten start in his seventh game, and their unbeaten season in their eleventh. Nine points, goal difference zero, ninth. They play at Brentford on Saturday; City are at home to Ipswich.
